This week, changing policies around Covid dominated the news. Meanwhile, Dartmouth is still trying to figure out housing for the fall semester and Cornell reversed its policy on remote teaching.
Washington State University announced that students would no longer be able to obtain “personal or philosophical” exemptions from its Covid-19 vaccination requirement once the FDA grants full approval to any of the three current vaccines under emergency use authorization.
Despite Dartmouth’s creative attempts at temporary housing solutions, parents and students are frustrated by the housing shortage and are pushing for the school to look into modular housing for students this fall. With the first day of the fall term just weeks away, dozens remain on the housing waitlist.
Unrest continues at Penn State, where students and faculty are protesting the decision of university leadership not to mandate vaccines. The PSU Faculty Senate voted “no confidence” in the university’s public health plan.
In Texas, the City of Austin issued an order requiring masks in all city buildings. The order was later revised to include UT Austin and certain campuses of the Austin Community College District. The order goes against Governor Abbott’s repeated prohibitions of mask mandates at public colleges.
Shortly after announcing that there would be no remote teaching options this upcoming academic year, Cornell University reversed its policy, citing a “deep concern for faculty and staff and a commitment to offering individualized accommodations.”
