This week, news about nursing programs, Penn puts 1,000+ students on registration hold, Harvard student workers strike, and Google and the state of Connecticut team-up.
The pandemic has ushered in a new generation of students interested in becoming nurses, and enrollment in nursing programs is rising. However, many colleges and universities can’t keep up with demand.
The University of Pennsylvania is placing 1,150 students on a registration hold for the spring semester after not meeting the university’s vaccination requirements. More than 99% of undergraduate students have met the requirements; most of the students on hold are graduate and professional studies students.
Harvard student workers and tutors are striking again in an effort to move negotiations with the administration along. The graduate student workers are looking for an increase in pay, affordable healthcare, and contractual protections against harassment and discrimination. A one-year deal was reached during the pandemic, and students have been without a contract since that deal ended in August.
Google and the state of Connecticut announced a partnership that makes Connecticut the first state to offer a Google Career Certificate in data analytics, information technology, and other areas. The certificates will be available to those studying at Connecticut’s public colleges and universities.
