This week, colleges begin releasing admissions data, Syracuse remains test-optional, Amherst launches a new major, and another FAFSA error surfaces.
As colleges and universities welcome the Class of 2028, Common App data reveals that overall applications are up, students applied to more colleges this year than last year, many schools are reporting lower acceptances rates, and the total impact of the FAFSA debacle is unknown.
Syracuse University has announced that it will extend its test-optional policy for students applying for Fall 2025 and Spring 2026 admissions.
Amherst College will be launching an Asian American and Pacific Islanders Studies major, noting that the major is “the first of its kind for a liberal arts college.”
According to the Department of Education, another data error in the FAFSA means that 330,000 FAFSA applications will need to be reprocessed. Without correction, five percent of applicants would receive less aid than they are entitled to.
