This Week in College Admissions – 02/11/2022

Published on: February 11, 2022

This week, we saw more test-optional extensions, a move toward eco-friendly dining options, updates to college classifications, data on waitlist admissions, and stellar college athletes at the Olympics.

In testing news, WashU and Swarthmore announced extensions of their test-optional policies. WashU will now be test-optional through fall 2024 and Swarthmore through fall 2025.

Many colleges and universities are offering fewer beef options on campus as part of efforts to combat climate change. Brown hopes to reduce red meat consumption by 25% by 2025 and Smith set a goal of a 15% reduction by 2024. What’s being offered in place of red meat? Beans. Lots of beans.

Adjustments to the Carnegie Classification system were announced this week. Beginning in 2023, colleges and universities will also be measured on how well they contribute to social and economic mobility across diverse student populations.

Waitlist data from Princeton and peer institutions was analyzed by Princeton students, examining how many applicants are offered a spot on the waitlist and the (in)frequency with which they’re admitted.
