Thought the end of June was a quiet time in college admissions? Think again!
The Supreme Court sided with college athletes this week, declaring unanimously that the NCAA cannot bar compensation for “education-related benefits.”
Students are eager to return to campus living after the pandemic and some colleges are struggling to find space for everyone. Dartmouth is offering $5,000 each to 200 upperclassmen who choose off-campus housing. The 200 students will be selected from a lottery, which will cost Dartmouth $1 million total.
Northeastern University is considering acquiring Mills College in California, saving Mills from closure. If the deal goes through, this would be NU’s third location in California and their tenth satellite campus.
Bard College partnered with St. Petersburg State University in Russia 25 years ago to co-found Smolny College, Russia’s first liberal arts college. This week, the Russian Prosecutor General’s Office has declared that Bard College is “undesirable in Russia,” threatening the partnership.
It’s not fall yet, but…the University of Chicago, Georgia Tech, and the University of Virginia all released their supplemental essay questions this week. UVA also officially closed their waitlist this week, a sign that the 2020-2021 admissions cycle is starting to come to a close.
