A California judge ruled that the UC system cannot use SAT or ACT scores in admissions this cycle because they would disadvantage low-income students and students with disabilities.
The New York Times reported that students at colleges and universities across the country are renting houses with friends and living in new cities. These students didn’t want to stay and home or be cooped up in their dorm rooms. This gives them the opportunity to explore a new locale, develop independence, and have some semblance of a “normal” college experience.
In Covid-related news, Vanderbilt unveiled a plan to test students weekly, Indiana University officials suggest Greek Housing should close after alarming numbers of new infections, and UNC offers students the opportunity to take classes Pass/Fail after abruptly switching to remote learning.
Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA announced their plan to go test-blind for 2020-2021 to eliminate any confusion and pressure for students about the need to submit test scores with their applications. They join nearly 60 other institutions that are also test-blind this year.
