This week, there’s a new report on international student enrollment, Wake Forest reimagines an old tradition, capital campaigns are back, and a big glitch at the University of Washington strikes right before its deadline.
After a precipitous decline in international students studying in the U.S. due to the pandemic, the Institute of International Education has found in their Open Doors Report that the number is now on the rise: international student enrollment is up 68 percent this fall over last fall.
Wake Forest has big plans for the traditional football tailgate. When the pandemic canceled football last year, the University used that time to reimagine what fraternity-dominated tailgating events might look like on campus. In an effort to help more students feel included, the University is providing tents, music, food from local food trucks, and new seating areas. It’s worked so far. This semester, the tailgate has had the largest attendance in history.
The pandemic put a lot of capital campaigns on hold, but fundraising is back with a bang at many colleges and universities.
And a timely reminder about submitting applications: don’t wait until the last minute! The University of Washington had to scramble when the Coalition Application was down on Sunday, a day before the university’s application deadline. Making matters worse? UW has a single deadline for all applicants, and it only accepts the Coalition Application.
