Admissions Deans Send A Message, Fall Semester Concerns, and ACT Cancels July Dates

Published on: July 3, 2020

While there were fewer test-optional announcements this week (we’re looking at you, Michigan and the SUNY system), other news dominated college admissions. Here’s the weekly round-up:

More than 300 college admissions deans signed a statement urging students to first prioritize self-care during these unprecedented times. The statement, “Care Counts in Crisis: College Admissions Deans Respond to COVID-19,” also emphasizes that they understand that applications will look different from previous years, hoping to ease students’ stress.

Colleges have rescinded admissions offers after students’ racist social media posts were discovered.

Faculty members across the nation share concerns about plans for the fall semester and USC dials back its plans for in-person classes. Meanwhile, Cornell researchers find that perhaps there will be more infections from a remote semester than a semester on campus.

Across the US and internationally, ACT canceled more test dates and rescheduled others.
