An innovative approach to college tours, more standardized testing news, and a big donation top this week’s college admissions news.
At Hamilton College, student tour guides are using cameras to offer personalized tours to prospective students and families. This allows tour guides to tailor their tours to specific interests and provides more access to places (think: dorm rooms) during the pandemic.
There are now over 1,350 accredited colleges and universities with ACT/SAT test-optional policies for Fall 2022 admission. You can see the full list of schools here and you can see the schools Expert Admissions is tracking here.
ETS, the company that administers the TOEFL, is unveiling a new exam that is shorter and more affordable in an effort to keep up with competition from Duolingo. Duolingo is currently accepted by over 3,000 US colleges and universities, nearly as many as TOEFL. In 2018, only a dozen or so colleges accepted Duolingo.
The Common Application announced this week a series of changes that will make the application more inclusive towards trans students. You can read about the changes here.
In good news this week, Howard University is the recipient of a $20 million dollar endowment from the Marriott Foundation to establish the Marriott-Sorensen Center for Hospitality Leadership.
