More Test-Blind News, Big Changes to College Athletics, U.S. News and World Report Rankings, and News from Graduate Programs

Published on: September 18, 2020

This week, we learned of more schools switching to test-blind admissions, a big change to college athletics, and some important changes to graduate programs.

Reed College and Dickinson College joined the growing list of test-blind schools. A few UC campuses had previously decided to go test-blind for upcoming admissions cycles. However, a California judge recently ruled that all the UCs must go test-blind for this upcoming admissions cycle…though the UC system is now appealing that decision.

In college athletics news, Big 10 Football will resume next month, though fans won’t be in attendance.

UNC-Chapel Hill’s Graduate History Department announced they are suspending enrollment due to Covid to ensure there is enough funding for their educational mission. At the University of Chicago, they announced that their Graduate English Department is only accepting applicants for the 2020-2021 graduate admissions cycle interested in “working in and with Black Studies.”

U.S. News and World Report released its Annual Report on College Rankings, and Princeton University remains on top, while the University of Florida shows how the U.S. News rankings can be gamed. This is why you should take those rankings with a (huge) grain of salt!

Though the Covid pandemic has changed many things, it hasn’t negatively impacted yield at Brown University; the University reported their highest yield in history.
